[lang_nl]Update 2 april 12.32 uur: zoals in het commentaar al aangegeven, staat Anand nu inderdaad als nummer 1 op de ratinglijst op de FIDE-website!
Update 1 april 12.40 uur: Chessbase claimt dat FIDE de aprillijst zo spoedig mogelijk zal ‘corrigeren’ door Morelia/Linares en Gibraltar alsnog te laten meetellen. Dus we kunnen op korte termijn een update op de FIDE-website verwachten.
De nieuwe ratinglijst voor april van de FIDE is inmiddels gepubliceerd. Verrassend genoeg staat Veselin Topalov nog altijd op de eerste plaats. Hij was ingehaald door Viswanathan Anand tijdens Morelia/Linares, maar dit toernooi is niet meegerekend. Een vreemde gang van zaken, als je bedenkt dat dit toernooi in voorgaande jaren wel meedeed voor de aprillijst. Mark Crowther, die ook ontdekte dat Gibraltar niet is meegeteld, noemde het zelfs een fout. Maar strikt genomen is het vreemder d?ɬ°t Linares altijd meetelde voor de lijst van april, aangezien de deadline voor een ratinglijst ?ɬ©?ɬ©n maand is. Met andere woorden: FIDE gehoorzaamt opeens netjes aan haar eigen regels. Niet dus. Zoals werd aangegeven op Migs blog, zijn enkele andere toernooien die na 1 maart eindigden, wel meegeteld…[/lang_nl][lang_en]Update April 2, 12.32 CET: as was already noted in the comments below, Anand is now indeed the no. 1 on the rating list on the FIDE website!
Update April 1, 12.40 CET: Chessbase claims FIDE will ‘correct’ the April list as soon as possible by including Morelia/Linares and Gibraltar. So I guess we can expect an update on de FIDE website in the coming days.
The FIDE rating list of April 2007 has been published. Surprise, surprise: Veselin Topalov is still the no. 1. He was overtaken by Viswananthan Anand during Morelia/Linares, but this tournament was not calculated. A strange thing, if you consider that this tournament always counted for the April list in recent years. Mark Crowther, who noticed that Gibraltar wasn’t included either, even considers it to be an error. But stricktly speaking, it’s even stranger that Linares was always included in the April list, since the deadline for a rating list is always one month. [lang_nl]Een opening die de laatste tijd op topniveau niet erg populair is, is de Tarrasch Verdediging. Je ziet vooral Slavisch, Dame-Indisch en dankzij Radjabov tegenwoordig ook weer veel Konings-Indisch. Hoewel Alexander Grischuk de Tarrasch soms als gelegenheidswapen gebruikt, lijkt er sinds Kasparov in de jaren tachtig geen topspeler meer te zijn geweest die de opening serieus met zwart bestudeerd heeft. De reden hiervoor is misschien dat veel zwartspelers de Tarrasch onbewust associeren met saaie stellingen en maximaal remise als resultaat. Dit is een misvatting.[/lang_nl][lang_en]An opening that is currently not very popular at the highest level, is the Tarrasch Defence. You mainly see Slavs, Queen’s Indians and thanks to Radjabov many King’s Indians as well these days. Although Grischuk uses the Tarrasch occasionally, no top player seems to have seriously studied the opening since Kasparov in the eighties. [lang_nl]Allang geen verrassing meer: Kramnik heeft het Melody Amber-toernooi voor de zesde keer gewonnen. Het verschil met nummer twee Anand was twee punten. Kramnik dankt zijn overwinning voornamelijk aan zijn formidabele blindtoernooi dat hij met 9 uit 11 won. Anand was de beste in het rapidtoernooi met 8,5 uit 11. Ivanchuk blijft een fantastische speler en eindigde als derde in de gecombineerde stand. Carlsens gedeelde tweede plek bij de rapid is ook vermeldenswaardig.[/lang_nl][lang_en]Not a surprise anymore: Kramnik has won the Melody Amber Tournament. The difference with runner-up Anand was two points. Kramnik’s glorious victory in the blind tournament, with 9 out of 11, is the basis of his overall win. It’s Official: Life Imitates Chess

Everybody knows that life imitates bad television (as Woody Allen once said). But wouldn’t it be wonderful, especially for all of us chess players, if life would turn out to imitate chess as well?

Theoretisch kunnen Ivanchuk en Anand, die tegen respectievelijk Gelfand en Leko eveneens tweemaal remiseerden, nog gelijk met hem eindigen morgen, maar Kramnik is in ieder geval al zeker van de eindoverwinning. De opvallendste speler van de dag was Radjabov, die twee keer van Aronian won.[/lang_nl][lang_en]With two draws against Svidler, Kramnik consolidated his lead today. Theoretically speaking Ivanchuk and Anand, who also drew twice against respectively Gelfand and Leko, can still finish shared first with him, but in any case Kramnik’s tournament victory is certain. [lang_nl]Na ons uitgebreide artikel van vorige week over het Ruy L?ɬ?pez Festival moesten we natuurlijk nog even terugkomen op dit mooie toernooi. En helemaal vanwege het grote succes dat de Armeni?ɬ´r Gabriel Sargissian er boekte; hij won met maar liefst 6,5 uit 7 en een tpr van 3021! Als 2600-speler in ?ɬ©?ɬ©n toernooi 24 ratingpunten winnen, da’s niet verkeerd hoor.[/lang_nl][lang_en]After last week’s lengthy article on the Ruy L?ɬ?pez Festival we had to return to this wonderful tournament once more. And especially because of the big success of the Armenian Gabriel Sargissian, who won the tournament with 6,5 out of 7 and a performance rating of 3021!
