[lang_nl]Volokitin en Kasimdzhanov zijn de grootste namen die na de tiebreaks van vandaag de World Cup moeten verlaten, en beide spelers doen dat nadat ze hun mini-matches verloren in een sudden-deathpartij. Ondanks zijn nederlaag dinsdag in partij 1 wist Ponomariov zich toch te plaatsen voor de derde ronde, net als Ivanchuk, Carlsen en de andere toppers die vandaag voor de rapids moesten verschijnen. De enige relatief onbekende speler die is overgebleven, heet Jianchao Zhou, komt uit China, heeft een rating van 2566, versloeg Volokitin vandaag en moet nu tegen Adams. Indeling ronde 3 & compleet toernooischema.[/lang_nl][lang_en]Volokitin and Kasimdzhanov are the biggest names that were kicked out of the World Cup tournament in the tiebreaks of round 2, and both players lost their mini-matches in sudden death games. Despite his loss in game 1 on Tuesday, Ponomariov went through in the tiebreaks, just like Ivanchuk, Carlsen and the other hot shots that had to play the rapids today. In een korte verklaring noemde Kasparov het arrest een voorbeeld van Ruslands overgang naar een dictatoriaal regime. Verder zag hij het als een waarschuwing en dat hij de volgende keer als een crimineel berecht zal worden.[/lang_nl][lang_en]After a five-day detention, Garry Kasparov has been released today. In a brief statement Kasparov called his arrest an example of Russia's transition into a dictatorship. In London, in the spring of 1895, world champion Emanuel Lasker gave a series of lectures, geared to the level of club players. Later that year Lasker expanded and gathered the material and published it as a book.

[lang_nl]Opnieuw is er een grote naam weggevallen uit het World Cup-toernooi: Teimour Radjabov moest winnen maar verloor opnieuw van de Pool Macieja. Het was vooralsnog de enige verrassing van deze tweede ronde want Ponomariov flikte het weer: met zwart moest hij winnen van Wang Hao en deed dat. Galkin hield Ivanchuk andermaal op een halfje en zij gaan met elf andere duo’s morgen de tiebreak spelen.[/lang_nl][lang_en]Another big name has left the World Cup tournament: against the Pole Macieja, Teimour Radjabov had to win but he lost again. Until now it was the only upset of this second round, because Ponomariov did it again: he had to win with Black against Wang and he did. [lang_nl]Net als vorig jaar won het damesteam het van het herenteam op het tweede schaaktoernooi “Festival de las Calaveras” dat eerder dit jaar plaatsvond in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Het toernooi was een dubbelrondige achtkamp volgens het Scheveninger-systeem: steeds speelden de dames tegen de heren. Het damesteam bestond uit GM Antoaneta Stefanova uit Bulgarije, WGM Marie Sebag uit Frankrijk, WGM Elisabeth Paehtz uit Duitsland en WGM Yang Shen uit China. Het herenteam had de Mexicanen GM Jose Gonzalez, IM Alfonso Almeida, FM Guillermo Dominguez en FM Uriel Capo in z’n gelederen.[/lang_nl][lang_en]Just like last year, the ladies’ team beat the men’s team at the 2nd Chess Tournament “Festival de las Calaveras” which took place earlier this month in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Hij verloor vandaag weer zijn eerste matchpartij, ditmaal van Wang Hao uit China, nadat laatstgenoemde een lange, geforceerde variant beter had uitgerekend.
