Rating lists will be published every two months, the k-factor will change accordingly, the rating floor has been decreased from 1400 to 1200 and it will be more difficult to score norms. Fabiano Caruana’s encore at the Italian Ch

He had to fight harder than last year but he did it again: 16-year-old Fabiano Caruana won the 68th Italian Championship, held in Martina Franca (Taranto, Southern Italy) from 3rd to 14th December. It’s his second title in a row. Read more
ACP joins the debate

In a press release today the Association of Chess Professionals (ACP) joins the debate surrounding the World Chess Championship cycle. Pinpointing the weak (and strong) aspects of the recent changes, they recommend FIDE “to build a sustainable dialog with chess players, where the ACP could play a role of mediator.” Read more
Last encounters before winter break

Besides the super events in Nanjing and Elista, this weekend also the eighth and ninth round, and the last two encounters of the seventh round take place in the “Schachbundesliga”. Again, the highest chess division in Germany offers from Friday to Sunday all in all 144 games which will be covered live on the internet. Read more
Iturrizaga wins Corus satellite qualifier

The full list still has to be published, but the first participant of the Corus C group is already known: it’s Eduardo Iturrizaga. The young Venezuelan GM won ICC’s Corus ‘C’ Group satellite qualifier by beating Brazilian GM Alexander Fier in the final. Read more
