17 December 2007 12:42 PM
Before the “winterstop” started, this weekend title holder OSC Baden-Baden and three other clubs catched up with the other teams, and played their third and fourth rounds of the Bundesliga. After this the situation in the German national league is back to normal, because with victories against Turm Trier, SC 1950 Remagen and Godesberger SK the home team, with Peter Svidler on board one, took the lead. full story »
Interviews Wojtaszek & Ftacnik
10 December 2007 9:00 AM
National champion Baden-Baden finished their Bundesliga weekend with another small victory: 4,5-3,5 against Hamburg, who actually won on the first three boards 2-1. Like McShane, Wojtaszek held world champion Anand on a draw (and he told us more about it before the camera), Bacrot couldn’t break “Gusti’s” resistance and Vallejo Pons lost again; this time he was mated by Ftacnik (who also tells us more about the game in a video). full story »
Vishy, Fressi, Gusti
9 December 2007 9:53 AM
Friday Hamburg had already beaten Bremen and despite Luke McShane’s draw with Black against Viswanathan Anand, national champion Baden-Baden beat the home club too yesterday: 3,5-4,5. SK Hamburg didn’t have trouble beating Turm Trier: 5,5-2,5. I did three short interviews after these matches. Because Luke McShane preferred not to talk before the camera, I had to go for “plan B” and ask Viswanathan Anand how their game went. Laurent Fressinet, one of the star players of home club Bremen, tells if you can still play for a win in the Ruy Lopez and what Jan Gustafsson is doing with ten kiwis, well, see for yourself. full story »
Dutch chess player banned after using PocketFritz
9 November 2007 8:55 AM
Poll added, on the right, in the grey column.
Last Saturday, while playing a game for his club, a Dutch chess player got caught outside the playing hall, holding a PDA. On the screen, a chess position was visible. It appeared that the player had entered the actual position of the game into PocketFritz. His game was declared lost, and yesterday the player was punished severely by the competition manager of the Dutch Chess Federation: a ban till the end of the season 2009-2010. full story »

Who gives in to whom?
2 April 2007 9:00 AM
Recently it became clear that next season (2007-2008) no less than four of the nine rounds of the Dutch Premier League will clash with the German Bundesliga rounds. For both Dutch and German chess professionals this is a very unfortunate situation. My question to the Dutch Federation concerning this issue caused a useful email discussion. full story »

Homburg Apeldoorn Dutch blitz champion
11 December 2006 3:25 PM
In the ’subjective reporting’ category, we bring you the following news: yesterday, Homburg Apeldoorn 1 became blitz champion of The Netherlands. Following the rollercoaster-ride of IM’s Manuel Bosboom (12,5 out of 13) and Merijn van Delft (12 out of 13), Roeland Pruijssers and myself could only follow humbly, though Roeland did this with considerably more gusto than yours truly. full story »
