Missed opportunity by Negi

Today Parimarjan Negi missed a big chance for the equaliser in his Amity Grandmaster Challenge versus Kateryna Lahno. In this position he played 28.Rg1? and the game ended in a draw after 28…Bxg1 29.Be6 Ng3+ 30.Kxg1 Ne2+ 31.Kf2 Nf4+ 32. Ke3 Nxe6 33.fxe6 Re8 34.Nf7+ Kg8 Nxh6+ Kh8 and a draw via perpetual. Do you see how White could have won?

You would expect that a talented grandmaster would find this mate in five as there is no defence against: 28.Ng6+ Kg7 29.f6+ Kxf6 30.Rf1+ Kg7 31. Be8+ Kg8 32.Rf8 mate. Basically this means Negi lost the match with normal time control and now has to try and overcome the one point deficit in the coming rapid and blitz games.

    Het is nogmaals bewezen,de ene GM is de andere niet.Het wordt tijd dat men een categorie bijmaakt.SGM Super grootmeester.
    Aan welke “normen” deze moet voldoen laat ik in het midden.

    Welnee, door deze blunder heeft het joch juist laten zien er helemaal bij te horen! Hij bevindt zich in goed gezelschap: Topalov, Kramnik en anderen.
