[lang_nl]Vorige week liet Geoffrey Borg, commercieel manager van FIDE en directeur van Global Chess BV, even zijn gezicht zien in Linares. Juist op die dag werden op de FIDE-website de steden en spelers van de eerste Grand Prix-serie bekendgemaakt. Een complexe set data die voornamelijk door Borg zijn samengesteld - een prestatie op zich.

Op 20 april gaat de eerste van zes Grand Prix-toernooien van start in Baku, Azerbeijan. Het is het begin van een lange WK-cyclus die gecombineerd zal worden met de resultaten van de al geplande matches Anand-Kramnik en Kamsky-Topalov.

Ik had een interview met Geoffrey, en in de video vertelt hij over de zes komende toernooien. Hij gaat ook in op de kritiek die Morozevich onlangs uitte op de Grand Prix en probeert alle overgebleven scepsis weg te nemen.

Op de FIDE-website zijn in PDF het schema en de deelnemerslijst van de eerste Grand Prix-serie te downloaden. Hieronder een overzicht per toernooi. Elke speler moet vier van de zes toernooien spelen en de uiteindelijke winnaar van de complete serie zal degene zijn die de meeste cumulatieve punten heeft gewonnen. De cumulatieve score wordt berekend uit de beste drie resultaten voor elke speler.[/lang_nl][lang_en]Last week, Geoffrey Borg (commercial manager of FIDE and CEO of Global Chess BV) dropped by for one day in Linares. Right on that day, at the FIDE website the cities and participants of the first Grand Prix Series was published, a complex set of data which have been created mainly by Borg - not a bad result by itself.

On April 20th, the first of six Grand Prix tournaments will start in Baku, Azerbaijan. It's the start of a new, long-term world championship cycle, that will be combined with the results of the already planned matches Anand-Kramnik and Kamsky-Topalov.

I took the opportunity to interview Mr Borg, and in the video Borg tells us about the six upcoming tournaments. He also comments on Morozevich's recent criticism and tries to take away any left skepticism.

At the FIDE website, in PDF you can download the schedule and list of participants of the first Grand Prix Series. Here's an overview of each tournament. Every player has to play four of the six tournaments and the eventual winner will be the player who scored most cumulative points. The cumulative score will be calculated from the three?Ǭ†best?Ǭ†results for each player.[/lang_en]
