World Championship: fourth game drawn

Anand-Kramnik, Game 4, drawUpdate: video added.
Drawing his fourth game of the World Championship match in Bonn, Viswanathan Anand has consolidated his lead over Vladimir Kramnik today. Going into the second rest day the score is 2.5-1.5 for Anand.

Well that was something quite different. After all the fun of yesterday, the fourth game in Bonn was, really, the least exciting game of the match thus far.

Protecting his lead in the match, Anand went for the solid 5.Bf4 against Kramnik's Queen's Gambit Declined and soon a typical "IQP" (isolated queen's pawn) position was reached.

Just when White seemed to have a tiny edge, Kramnik started marching his g-pawn to remove the White bishop from the h3-c8 diagonal, where it controlled the square e6 which was ideal for Black's knight. As soon as Nc5-e6 was possible, followed by the thematical break d5-d4, there was nothing left to play for. A chrystal-clear game, but also a bit dull. Well, that's also part of the game!

A quiet Saturday on which the Bonn flee market (the reason why the players arrived a bit late today, because their two Mercedes('s?) got into a traffic jam) would have been a good alternative

Die vrouwen in de achtergrond zijn wel zielig soms...
Wie zijn idee was dat!?!?

Yes, the fullscreen button does not (always?) work.

How to play FLV files.
After installing VLC media player clicking the link will open the file in VLC and you have total control over playback preferences.

VLC plays all media files, it's the only backup you need for stuff that does not run in windows media player or quicktime, if you even

want to use them at all.

Hi there;
Congratulations for your work, but I want to say that your press conferences are too noisy; please do something about it.

Who commented the game today?

Yeah, maybe you're right. Probably both players were responsible for reaching this very quiet middlegame position anyway.

"It's not the most exciting position you can think of, but it's exactly the position Anand needs, when leading 2-1 in the match".

I do not agree with this. Probably Kramnik was the one who wanted a draw more bad then Anand. A second loss is a row would be a disaster. When I was Anand I would try to use this and go for a win.

"Queen's Gambit Declined - the opening that's been played the most in World Championship Matches!" - I'm not sure, but I can't recall a W Ch match where this opening wasn't played!

Nice videos, but how is it possible that in a high technology country like Germany the sound at the press conference is so miserable. A shame!

The girls are pathetic. This is unprecedented, even in, say, car racing or kickboxing.
Is this the German approach of making chess more appealing to the crowd? Someone must tell the organizers that it is misplaced and a disgrace for both chess and the female gender.

@noharm
the girls aren't pathetic, they are quite nice really but they i agree they are in the wrong place. im surprised that such a 'serious' country like germany would have such nonsense. expect it in the USA but not here. chess does not require such gimmicks.

Serious country :D.

Anyway, I'm really excited about seeing a game live next weekend. I hope Kramnik wins it!

Keep up the awesome coverage, ChessVibes!
