Deep Fritz? Wie??
Vladimir Kramnik, die kennen we onderhand wel. Maar tegen wie neemt Kramnik het nou eigenlijk op? Het toernooi spreekt van 'the world's leading chess computer program'. Hiermee wordt natuurlijk schaamteloos voorbijgegaan aan het bestaan van Rybka, maar het staat buiten kijf dat deze versie van Fritz heel sterk zal zijn. Op een standaard 2 GHz notebook 'ziet' Fritz 1,5 miljoen stellingen per seconde en in Bonn beschikt het Deep Fritz-team over een Dual Intel Core 2 Duo 5160 systeem, waarmee het schaakprogramma ongeveer acht miljoen stellingen per seconde kan bekijken.

Deep Fritz is zeg maar de grote broer van het wereldberoemde schaakprogramma Fritz, waarvan zeer recentelijk versie 10 is verschenen. In 1994 in M?ɬºnchen speelde Fritz voor het eerst mee in een 'mensentoernooi'. Het experiment werd een sensatie: het programma eindigde gedeeld eerste samen met Garry Kasparov. Gelukkig, voor de mensheid, won de toenmalige wereldkampioen de tiebreakpartij.

Het tweede grote succes voor Fritz kwam in mei 1995: in Hongkong werd het voor het eerst wereldkampioen onder de schaakcomputers. Aparte regels
Van mens-tegen-computermatches wordt vaak gezegd dat ze niet eerlijk zijn. Immers, een computer beschikt over een openingsboek en tablebases en zou daarmee een duidelijk voordeel hebben. Hier heeft de organisatie over nagedacht en dit heeft geleid tot een aantal bijzondere regels:
