Rest day in Morelia: tennis!

Yesterday was a rest day in Morelia. We don’t have to tell you what Magnus Carlsen was doing: playing tennis of course! Levon Aronian and his second Gabriel Sargissian also took a turn.

Of course, it was a joke when we wrote Magnus’s weak point was his backhand…

…because, well, look at this technique!

Take that, Levon!

Let’s see how Levon responds…

…well he returns the ball in original style…

…is that Speedy Gonzalez I’m playing…??

Now we need some rest, you play, Gabriel!

No problem. I can do this. I’m ready for the kid.

You stick to the chess, Levon.

You ain’t seen nothing yet, Gabriel!

The photos were taken by Macauley Peterson, who’s making lots of videos in Morelia. More photos of the rest day at his Flickr account.

Hopefully Magnus is not following in the footsteps of Ulf Andersson…

Speaking of ’seconds’, you know what I’d like to see? An article on ChessVibes that describes them and what they do? In fact, I’d love to see an article that describes how these high level tournaments are played and prepared for. What goes into the preparation for such a match and what are the roles of the various people who accompany the actual players?

Yes, excellent idea, perhaps I can interview some more seconds during Linares. Have you seen the interviews with Loek van Wely and Peter Heine Nielsen?

An interview with Gabriel Sargissian would be interesting.

if you decide in advance to try to do some interviews with seconds, you could maybe have a feature on the site to post suggestions on what questions to ask… *hint* *hint*

Yes, I saw the interviews with Loek and Peter. I thought that was a great idea and really great coverage. Love the tennis photos by the way.
