25 March 2007 21:16 PM
Every Saturday (this time with some delay, apologies for this) an endgame study is published at Chessvibes, selected by Yochanan Afek: player, trainer, endgame study composer and writer. A week later the solution is published.

White to play and win
Next week the solution.
Solution last week:

1.Bf5 Kd6/d8 2. Rd4+ Ke5 3.Re4+ Kf5 4.Re3 1-0
Ravi, Try harder, you are not there yet!
Yes Ravi Yochanan is correct, you are headed towards a stalemate.
1.Bc6+ Kd6 2.Rd4+ Ke5 3.Re4+ and Rxe3 and Rxe2 1-0
after 1. … Kc8 2. Rf8#
Tobi, still not good enough. harder!Think stalemate!
nr 11:
1. Kf3 Le2+ 2. Kg3 Ke1 [and not 2... Ld4]
3. Kg2 Lf1+ 4. Kf3 Le2+ 5. Kg2 etc. draw
A dual to the solution?
1.Bc6+ Kd6 2.Rd4+ Ke6 3.Re4+ Kd6 4.Rxe3 e1Q 5.Rxe1
Stalemate, this is NOT the solution.
1. Bf5+ Kd8 (or Kd6) 2. Rd4+ Ke7 3. Re4+ Kd8 4. Bd7! e1=Q 5. Bb5
and white should win as black can do anything against 6. Re8 mat
It´s right. It is only draw, if 1.Bc6+. It isn´t solution.
So the stalemate is
1.Bf5+ Ke8
2.Re4+ Kd8
3.Rxe3 stalemate
so probably White has to play
2.Bd7+ Kxd7
3.Rd4+ Kex
4.Re4+ and take the pawns
and if Black plays
2… Ke7
3.Re4+ Kd8
4.Bd7 e1Q
5.Bb5 with mate on e8
