Every Saturday an endgame study is published at ChessVibes, selected by IM Yochanan Afek: player, trainer, endgame study composer and writer. A week later the solution is published. Good luck with the instructional occupation of solving a study!

Next week the solution.
Solution last week:

Two objectives:
a) Get control over the knight (it must not be allowed to capture the pawn)
b) promotion
Without checking other possibilities I prefer
1. Kc5 Nc7 2. Kd6 Ne8+
because it’s totally forcing for black (everything else loses the knight because of the Kc6 trap).
I think 3.Ke7 is the only move that keeps the pressure and forces 3… Ng7 (…Nc7 4.Kf7 traps the black king in the corner, mate to follow).
Up to this point it took me less than 5 minutes. Now it get’s quite complicated. Kf7, g6 and stuff like that didn’t work out for me.
Then I was just curious about what would happen when my bishop quits the artillery and joins the infantry with
4.Bg6 Kg8 5.Bf6
Now we trapped the knight and the black king has no other choice than to wander between h8 and h7.
Now we move our king to g4, advance the g pawn and now black is in zugzwang and must give up the knight. The rest is daily routine. Very nice puzzle!
