Peter Doggers (2262) - Karel van der Weide (2502) [B43]
Micha Leuw Memorial (Amsterdam) 2007
1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 e6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 a6 5. Nc3 d6 6. Bd3 Nf6 7.
An unnatural way to win the b2 pawn. I liked my position already.
Karel tought 9... Qxb2 lost to 10. Ndb5 but this appeared to be all theory, on the highest level: 10... axb5 11. Nxb5 Ra5 (11... Qb4 12. Nc7+ Ke7 (12... Kd8 13. Nxa8 Qa5 we had on the board during the post-mortem but we didn't find the stroke 14. Nb6! Nxb6 15. Qe1! which was mentioned by Gheorghiu one time: 15... Qa7 16. a4 Ng4 17. a5
)
13. Nxa8 Qa5 14. e5 Ne8 15. exd6+ Nxd6 16. c4 Qxa8 17. c5 Ne8 18. f5
de Firmian-Gheorghiu, Lone Pine 1980(18. f5 Anand 18... f6 (18... Ne5!?)
19. Bd4 Ne5?! (19... e5 20. Qb3 Nc7)
20. Bxe5 fxe5 21. Bc4
De Firmian-Gheorghiu, Lone Pine 1980)
)
(11... Kd8? 12. a3! Ra4 (12... d5 13. Rb1 Qa2 14. Rb3!)
13. c4!
)
(11... Rb8? 12. Rb1 Qxa2 13. Ra1 Qb2 14. Bd4 Qb4 15. c3
)
12. Rb1 Rxb5 (12... Qxa2? 13. Nc3 Qa3 14. Rb3)
13. Rxb2 Rxb2 14. Qa1 Rb6 15. Bxb6 Nxb6 16. Qc3 Be7 17. Rb1 Nfd7 18. Qxg7 Bf6 19. Qh6 Ke7 20. Bb5? Rg8? 21. Rd1! e5 22. f5 Nc5? 23. Rxd6! Bg5 24. Qxh7 Nxe4 25. Rxb6 Rd8 26. Bd3 Be3+ 27. Kf1 Bxb6 28. Bxe4 Rd4 29. c3 1-0, Anand-Kasparov, Tilburg 1991
10. Nf5 Qxb2 11. fxe5 dxe5 Karel didn't like 11... Nxe5 because of 12. Na4 Qa3 13. Nb6 but then 13... Bxf5!? 14. Nxa8 Bxe4 is murky.
12. Nd5 Nxd5 13. exd5 g6 14. Qf3!? 14. Nh6 is a fine alternative.
14... f6 14... gxf5 15. Qxf5 followed by a quick c2-c4 is pretty nasty for Black.
15. d6! Qa3 15... gxf5 16. Bxf5 is still very dangerous.
16. Qd5!? I also looked at 16. Rad1 and it might be stronger.
16... gxf5 Now Black has to take.
17. Qe6+ Kd8 18. Bb6+! Nxb6 19. Qxf6+ Kd7 Not 19... Ke8? 20. Qxe5+
20. Bxf5+ Kc6 Only I here I really started to think but I had difficulty calculating.
21. Be4+ 21. d7+ valt tegen: 21... Bd6 22. Qxh8 (22. dxc8=Q+ Rhxc8)
22... Bxd7
21... Kb5 After about half an hour of thinking I still couldn't find the win. Actually, it only became even more complicated!
22. Rab1+ Ka4 We analysed on this position for a while but the computer refutes most of what we found.
23. Bc6+? Here I should have played 23. Qxe5 and now Karel intended 23... Nc4 but this loses to 24. Bc6+! bxc6 25. Rf4
Rybka gives 23. Qxe5 Qxd6 24. Qxh8 Qc5+ 25. Kh1 but thinks it's winning for White.
23... bxc6 24. Qh4+? 24. Qxe5 is probably still enough for a draw.
24... Bg4! I had completely missed this one. Black is suddenly winning.
25. Qxg4+ Ka5 26. Qe4 Bxd6 27. Kh1 Rhf8 0-1
