1. e4 g6 2. d4 Bg7 3. Nc3 d6 4. Bc4 Nc6 5. Be3 Nf6 6. f3 O-O 7. Qd2 e5 8. d5 Nd4 9. Nge2 Nxe2 10. Bxe2 c6 11. O-O-O c5 Thanks to the opposite castled Kings, it's at least clear what this is all about. White's gonna attack, Black's gonna try to attack.
12. g4 a6 13. h4 b5 14. h5 Qa5 Risky, the queen so far away from home...
15. Bh6 Ra7 16. Bxg7 Kxg7 Black can parry a direct assault over the h-file for now, thanks to Ra7, so I was quite optimistic here. This changed after Vincent's next move.
17. f4! Principled and very strong. The position must be opened up. Black is lacking pieces on the King's side now.
17... b4 18. fxe5 dxe5 19. Nb1 Qxa2 Looking for counterchances, it does shut out every possibily to use the Queen for the defence.
20. hxg6 fxg6 21. Rdf1 c4 Already more or less in time trouble, the calculation mistakes come as naturally as a baby's smile. The idea was 22.g5 Nxe4 23.Qe3 c3, but Ra7 is hanging with check.
22. Qxb4 Saw it, but forgot about it again. White is winning now.
22... Rb7 23. Qc3 Re8 24. Bxc4 Qa1 25. Bb3 Fritz likes Rxf6, Rybka does too, so there must be something in it.
25... Nxe4 Fifteen minutes for White, 5 minutes for Black. Black won't survive a calm analysis, but the position is not without venom. 25.Qf3 fails to Qxb1+.
26. Qe3 Nd6 And now the threat is Qxb2.
27. Qh6+ Kg8 28. Rf6 Nc4! Only chance, and in fact quite annoying for White.
29. Rxg6+ Kh8 30. Bxc4 Qxb2+ 31. Kd2 Qd4+! My original plan was 31... Qb4+ but I didnt see anything after 32. Kd3 e4+ 33. Kd4 bijvoorbeeld 33... Rc7 34. Rc6 and White wins. Establishing that Qb4 loses cost me my last thinking time. The rest had to be played in 1 minute.
32. Bd3 e4 33. Rf6?? 33.Re1 still offers winning chances.
33... Rg7?? 33... e3+ wins on the spot.
34. Qf4 Rxg4 35. Rf8+ Rxf8 36. Qxf8+ Rg8 Fortunately , Vincent was in time trouble too, otherwise he would have spotted Qf7.
37. Qf4 37. Qf7
37... e3+ Only move, and also winning
38. Ke2 Rg2+ 38... Qxf4 39. Rxh7#
39. Kf1 Qxf4+ 40. Kxg2 Qf2# A narrow escape. There were even more, but I better not show them.
0-1
