Bilbao live commentary by Sergey Shipov in English

Live commentary by Sergey Shipov in English"For us, humans with spades, such large-scale work and bottomless pits look crazy." This is not a quote from Chilean President Sebastian Pinera, who is currently hugging rescued miners. No, it was Sergey Shipov who used it in his commentary of round 3 of the Bilbao Masters Final. You can now follow the Russian GM's commentary live in English too.

Russian grandmaster Sergey Shipov has been known for years to be one of the best (if not the best) sources for live chess commentary. His analysis is fast, at the highest level and full of personal insights and anecdotes. The only problem is that it's published in Russian, on his site Crestbook, and although Google Translate does a reasonable job, it's not even close to perfect. But there's something better now.

Chess in Translation, Colin McGourty's new site that we've plugged before, provides daily, live (!) translation of Shipov's commentary. Colin is a native English speaker who lives in Poland and who follows Russian chess media closely. We've published some material by him already here on ChessVibes (yes, that was the disclaimer :-)) and we think his new live service deserved to be mentioned too.

So, enjoy the fourth round of Bilbao, on the official site, on one of the online servers or, if you're looking for a very strong grandmaster's opinion, at Chess in Translation! The new round starts, as always, at 16.30 CET.

OMG... I think Kramnik has Magnus under pressure here...
It will be too disheartening for Magnus if he loses this one... I wish him a draw!

Curious .. avoiding to comment Shirov's games (R1:K-C; R2:C-A; R3:A-K; R4:C-K)
I guess today it will be Kramnik-Anand
A possible explanation would be that he prefers to focus on positional commentaries rather than concrete lines that can be analysed with computers, therefore Shirov' style of play would not fit Shipov's style of commenting

ouch ...
To err is human, to forgive is divine
Today: Carlsen-Shirov

He was regretting before yesterday's game that he hadn't covered Shirov yet, but felt he had to go with Carlsen-Kramnik (public demand!). It's just been coincidental and based on the tournament table - to be honest he should really be commentating on Kramnik-Anand today :)

If I understood Shipov correctly then his booze of choice will be Chilean wine today. Long live the miners!
