[lang_nl]Na vandaag blijft Carlsen alleen aan de leiding met 5,5 uit 8, terwijl Anand dankzij een nieuwe overwinning stijgt naar de gedeeld vierde plaats. Die winst op Topalov zag er soepel uit: het ruilen van de zwartveldige lopers was helemaal niet zo gunstig voor zwart als het leek en zo kwam het er eigenlijk op neer dat Vishy achter het bord een voorbereid idee (11...g6 dus) van Topalov weerlegde. Vooral 28.h3! en 37.Ka2! waren om in te lijsten. Zie verder de persconferentie.

De andere zes partijen eindigden in remise. In Eljanov-Adams, een Catalaan, wist wit zijn tegenstander niet echt in de problemen te brengen - Adams zelf acht 14.Pxd7 kansrijker dan 14.Pc6. Mamedyarov-Aronian was een Meraner met 11...Dc8 als nieuwtje, dat na 12.e4 (volgens Aronian niet de sterkste) snel tot een gelijke stelling leidde. Ook weinig gekke dingen in Van Wely-Leko, maar ja wat wil je, die Hongaar is zo ontzettend solid. Radjabov-Ivanchuk was een vrij interessantte Caro-Kann waarin 18...c5 een nieuwtje was ten opzichte van Morovic Fernandez-Karpov, Cap d'Agde 2002. Net als in die partij eindigden de verwikkelingen helaas ook tot een snelle puntendeling. Koploper Carlsen had lang licht eindspelvoordeel tegen Gelfand maar zwart had een prachtige loper en voortdurende activiteit, waardoor wit niet verder kon komen.

De B-groep werd vandaag natuurlijk overschaduwd door de Short-Cheparinov-soap. Morgen om 13.30 staat de partij nu gepland, als Cheparinov voor 11.00 uur zijn excuses heeft aangeboden. Ondertussen heeft Movsesian de koppositie gepakt door Spoelman op leuke wijze te verslaan - op een halfje volgt Bacrot. De Fransman probeerde bijna vijftig zetten een pionnen(!)eindspel met twee tegen een te winnen van Hou Yifan, maar de Chinese verdedigde feilloos.

In C won Caruana op uiterst volwassen wijze van Braun, eigenlijk door zijn tegenstander langzaam weg te schuiven. De Duitser die zo goed begon, moet nu dinsdag met zwart winnen van Carlsson om over negen rondes zijn laatste GM-norm te scoren.

In de Eregroep twee remises. Portisch-Ljubojevic mag geen naam hebben en Korchnoi kwam ver tegen Timman, maar de Nederlander maakte zijn naam als eindspelkenner waar door een toreneindspel successvol te verdedigen.[/lang_nl][lang_en]After today, Carlsen is still the sole leader with 5,5 out of 8, while Anand is now shared 4th, thanks to his smooth victory against Topalov: exchanging the black-squared bishops turned out to be not so bad for White, and so it was actually Vishy refuting Veselin's prepared idea (11...g6) over the board. The other six games ended in a draw. In Eljanov-Adams, a Catalan, White didn't achieve much out of the opening - Adams thinks 14.Nxd7 gives more chances than 14.Nc6. Mamedyarov-Aronian was a Meran with 11...Qc8 as the new move, which after 12.e4 (according to Aronian not the strongest) led to an equal position shortly. Nothing special either in Van Wely-Leko, but that's no surprise with the super-solid Hungarian playing Black. Radjabov-Ivanchuk was quite an interesting Caro-Kann where 18...c5 was a novelty (compared to Morovic Fernandez-Karpov, Cap d'Agde 2002). Unfortunately the complications led to a short and peaceful outcome soon as well. For a long time Carlsen had a slight edge in an ending but because of Black's great bishop and very active play, White couldn't really get anything more than a weak plus pawn.

The B group was of course shaded by the Short-Cheparinov Soap. The game is now scheduled tomorrow at 13.30, as along as Cheparinov has apologized before 11.00 hrs. Meanwhile, Movsesian took sole lead by beating Spoelman nicely, followed on a half point by Bacrot. The Frenchman tried to win a two vs one pawn (!) ending for almost fifty moves against Hou Yifan, but the Chinese girl defended flawlessly.

In C, Caruana beat Braun very maturely, actually by slowly grinding down his opponent. The German, who started so well, now has to beat Carlsson with Black next Tuesday to score his last GM norm over nine rounds.

Lastly, two Honorary Draws among the veterans. Portisch-Ljubojevic wasn't too much of a game, but Korchnoi got quite far against Timman, and so the Dutchman needed all his fame as an endgame specialist to defend a rook ending sucessfully.[/lang_en]
