But what about he 250 euro award from Sokolov..i gather he makes more money handing it out than the winner gets...besides that we have much more friendly and erudite chessplayers (with humour)! Why not Sosonko or Ree or vd Wiel ... we all know Sokolov is just in for the euro's! I do welcome the fact that Corus invites Dutch chessplayers in the various grandmaster groups, but lets be fair they didn't show too much besides some well battled draws and an ocassional win. Only van Wely seems to be playing for wins against the top players and he sure deserves honour. Let's face it grandmaster group A would have been a lot more vivid if e.g Shirov and Polgar would have joined in. I think Dominguez against Karjakin has got a strong position after 23.Bd3 or even after 24.b4. I think it was then necessary to act rapidly because the position was complicated, and Karjakin was very conscious of the position and was making good defensive moves! After Black's 24.....Qb6 for example, it seems it was urgent do exchange the Black's defending Bishop at g6, for example: 25.Bxg6..fxg6 26.O-O-O...Qxb4 27.Qxg6...Qb2+ 28.Kd2...Rfd2+ 29.Ke2...Rxd1 30.Rxd1 and now White would have a big advantage because the Black's knight and bishop are pined, the black queen has no where to go and the Black's rook had no column to play, and White would be eventually threatening Bxf6 wining. I see difficult defense for this. It seems Dominguez managed to find a good attack, but this time the situation was more complicated and he probably was in time trouble...A really dramatic decisive game..!
