Change the chessboard! Pieces drop too easily, only young players can bend their knees so often to pick up the pieces. :)

nick's picture

however after 41. b3 Rd8 42. Kg1 Rd2 43. Bh1 Nd1 44. Ra7! Nxc3 45. Ng7+ Bxg7 46. Rxg7 Ne2+ 47. Kf2 then perhaps Nd4+ 48. Ke3 Rxa2 49. Rg8+ Kf7 50. Rxg4 and it is still unclear if blacks advantage is decisive. Clearly there was much play left...

MamedyarovFan:
Caissa doesn't ask your blessing, you have it a bit upside down! Beware some extra blunders for awhile.

Nice video! Thanks, Dutch organizers!

Felicidades Magnus! Esto es una leccion de ajedrez. Partida comentada por el mismo de forma fant?ɬ°stica.

Please can anyone tell the organizers to use a different chessboard!!! The pieces just keep falling down all the time!
Thanks!!

this seems to be the main line 41. b3 Rd8 42. Kg1 Rd2 43. Bh1 Nd1 44. Ra7! Nxc3 45. Ng7+ Bxg7 46. Rxg7 Ne2+ 47. Kf2 then perhaps Nd4+ 48. Ke3 Rxa2 49. Rg8+ Kf7 50. Rxg4 and it is still unclear if blacks advantage is decisive. Clearly there was much play left?¢‚Ǩ¬¶

Repsaccer's picture

what happens after :

41.b3, Rd8
42.Kg1, Rd2
43.Bh1, Bxc3
44.Ra7, Bd4
45.Ng7+

isnt this drawish?

leprechaun's picture

I guess those engines must not be working very well... ;)

41.b3, Rd8
42.Kg1, Rd2
43.Bh1, Bxc3
44.Ra6/Ra7, Bd4
45.e5, Ng2+
46.Kf1, Rf2+ (46.Kh2, Nxh4+ 47.Bg2, Rxg2+ 48.Kh1, Rg1+ 49.Kh2, Nf3#)
47.Kg1, Rxa2+ +-

And if 44.Nf4, Be5 45. Ra6, Bxf4 46. gxf4, g3 +-
Or if 44.a3, Bd4 45.Nf4, Nf5+ 46.Kg1, Nxg3+ +-

Among other lines, as this is more than more than hopeless!!!

Karl's picture

Magnificent video! Have you thought of putting your videos on video.google.com for getting around the ten minute video length?

Karl's picture

O, by the way: according to the engines the final position is not winning because of 41. b3 Td8 42. Kg1. I would love to hear Carlsen or Mamedyarov comment on that ;)

Christophe's picture

After 41.b3 Td8 42.Rg1
(If 42.Ta6 then Td1+ 43.Rh2 Rf7 44.Fh1 Tc1 and the Black has a decisive advantage )
42... Td2 43.Fh1 Cd1 44.Fg2 Cxc3 45.Ta7 Ce2+ 46.Rh2 Rf8! and the Black has a decisive advantage.

Good game Magnus

nick's picture

Actually after 41. b3 Rd8 -losing the bishop is illusory, as it can safely drop to h1. A slightly better position for black but far from winning. Still a nice game from Magnus, and yes more wondeful chessvibes coverage.

Aaron's picture

Nice video! Thx Peter!
Go Magnus!

Eiae's picture

According to Safarli who they say is Mamedyarov's second, Mamedyarov wasn't feeling very well at the end of the game and therefore resigned. I guess he just didn't have the energy to look deeper for chances to equalize.
Hope he does better today in the second round.

Tom's picture

Thank you very much for the nice video clips. I am excited to see more like that. Keep up the good job. *thumbs up*

LOL at Jeans and Claudio about dropping and picking up pieces! Aighearach: Beidh Shak ar ais :)

Dr. Wolfgang J. Berghorn, Germany's picture

This sort of video clips is an extraordinary and highly excellent way to follow a game "postmortemly" as a visitor - far from the location of the event, but very close to the player?Ǭ¥s thinking at the chess board. Many chess enthusiasts are appreciating this efforts with best compliments to the Chessvibes-Team! Go on with such presents!

Peter's picture

Excellent commentary by Magnus. Thanks for the video Chessvibes. Well done. The videos make chess a lot more interesting.

Ekornbakke's picture

After 41.b3 black plays Rd8. I think the bishop on g2 falls rather quickly.

nick's picture

Indeed, no mention of 41. b3 which seems only to be a minimal advantage to black. A strange resignation.

MamedyarovFan's picture

Peter: That is a brilliant video -- we learn not only GM Carlson's chess insights but also some of his emotions during the game, and we see that he is a nice unassuming fellow. Of course that doesn't mean I forgive Caissa for not having GM Mamedyarov on stage instead :) "Shak will be back".

Daniel's picture

Incredible performance by Magnus.:-) Somehow my computer shows that the final position is equal or only a small advantage for black. Anyway I'm looking forward to see the fully annotated in the Chess Informant.:-)

Bartleby's picture

Impressive. Carlsen pressed hard throughout the whole game, despite having weaknesses in his position as well, and his courage was rewarded.
Mamedyarov tried to play solid, normal moves, but wasn't an accurate enough defender (yet).

Jeans's picture

Well at least with this board we get to see what "dropping a piece" looks like.
Very nice to see the players explaning their games like last year!

Visser's picture

Been waiting since last year for the new analysis videos.
Excellent!

Pablo's picture

It would be nice if you could put english subtitles (as you did on Van Wely?Ǭ¥s interview) in the videos as I suppose there are many non-english (or at least non fluent in English) visitors.

Anyway, thanks for your work
