[lang_nl]FIDE heeft vandaag de deelnemers van de eerste Grand Prix-serie bekendgemaakt. Kramnik, Anand, Topalov en Morozevich doen niet mee, en desondanks is de gemiddelde rating boven de 2700.[/lang_nl][lang_en]Today, FIDE has published the list of confirmed participants for the first Grand Prix series. Kramnik, Anand, Topalov and Morozevich are not playing, but still the average rating is above 2700.[/lang_en]

The level will be good, but i think Morozevich had a point.

As far as i know, this will be an event composed from six tournaments, the winner will play a match against the winner of the World Cup, and the winner of that match will be the World Chess Championship challenger.

What are players like Al Modiahki and Pelletier doing in this tournament?

More amazing that we have a 2700+ average rating with players like this in the field.

There are 21 players, as counting started at "2". The last six players are clearly either local nominees or the Presidential nominee (probably Wang Yue). I'm guessing that Grischuk is also a local nominee. I predicted Gashimov, Navara and Al Modiahki as local nominees, while leaving the two Russian nominees and Switzerland as too chancy to guess.
