I was impressed by this game. Black probably refused a draw-offer.

I just looked up the game.

37...Ne5 28.gxf Kf8! would have saved black maybe. Rybka takes quite some time to see that around move 40 black is already lost.

If he was that happy about this game, you maybe should add it to the report :)

A great memoriam, Karel, thank you!
Rob was a great chess player indeed. Here are just two small stories. A few years ago I was analysing some crazy Najdorf line in Het Hok together with Merijn and some other strong chess players. This line had already been played many times in our club, but we just couldn't refute it. Suddenly Hartoch sat next to us and asked what we were looking at. We explained and after some thought, he suggested an idea nobody had looked at before. We immediately realised this was the solution to the problem. Rob had found something within minutes that had taken one of the strongest clubs in Amsterdam months.

Another interesting story is that Rob once told me he always kept the scoresheet of one of his games in his wallet. I didn't believe him at first but then he showed it to me. I was surprised to be looking at the game Hartoch-Paul Keres from the IBM tournament in 1971. Rob had won that game. The victory over such a famous player still made Rob proud after all these years: he was smiling from ear to ear.
