Hikaru Nakamura is the sole leader after four rounds at the Tal Memorial in Moscow. On Monday the American grandmaster scored his third straight victory with Black in a Najdorf against Fabiano Caruana, while all other games ended in draws.

Anton Filippov and Mikhail Markov have qualified for the World Chess Cup in Tromsø, Norway. Filippov won the Zone 3.4 FIDE qualifier with a score of 7/9, while Markov finished second with 6.5 points. Stefan Mazur was the surprising winner of the 27th Pula Open which took place 8-15 June in Pula, Croatia. The Slovak IM scored an amazing 8/9 in a field with ten GMs. IM Frode Urkedal of Norway did well too: he finished shared second with GM Sinisa Drazic, on 7.5 points.

Hou Yifan defeated David Navara on Friday in the Cez Chess Trophy match by the smallest possible margin. The 19-year-old Chinese won the all-decisive Armageddon game after all four classical games had ended in draws, and both players had exchanged victories in two blitz games.

The organizers of the Biel Chess Festival have announced the list of participants of their main event. This year the six players are Etienne Bacrot, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Alexander Moiseenko, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Ding Liren, and Richard Rapport.
