My guess is:
1.Rxh5 and if
1... gxh5
2.Bxg7 Kxg7
3.Qf4 threating f7
so now e5 and e6 weakens f6 and if
4...Rf8 or 4...Qd8
5.Rh1 with idea Rxh5 and Qh4 with mate

I can't see in the 37..exd4 alternative line how 40 Qxd4 is check and leads to a win?
