[lang_nl]Net als vorig jaar is het Carlsen die Anand achtervolgt. Toen hadden beiden 5,5 uit 9, nu heeft Magnus een halfje minder dan Vishy.[/lang_nl][lang_en]Just like last year, Carlsen is chasing Anand. Then they were both on 5.5/9, now Magnus is half a point behind.[/lang_en]

Why so many and big mistakes the players are making?
I think the level this tournament is below of the rating average!

Andy's picture

Pedro, that's what is normal for 'modern day chess' you know?
Ever faster time controls.
That means ever more blunders! :(

Ron's picture

Yes, but the level of play is incredibly low sometimes. But fun it is for sure!

Pues yo creo que hasta ahora las partidas han estado muy bien con algunas excepciones. Pero el torneo no est?ɬ° defraudando.

Anyway, I think you see in the games that those guys want to play interesting chess and have fun, when they make mistakes it just shows that they are humans and I guess the change of the places increases the number of errors due to the worse physical condition of the players.
One of the most entertaining tournaments in the last time for sure!

But the time control in Linares is CLASSICAL!! It means 2 h/40+1h/20+30min to complete the game. It is NOT the fide semi-rapid control...

The number of blunders is very low, bur the few blunders are spectacular. The level of games is very high. After playing for 7 hours any one would make a mistake. The jet lag is a big problem. It would be better to play first in Linares and then in Mexico, because you travel with the sun and jet lag would not be such a big problem.

I think its a bit too much for people here to complain on an "overall low quality of play", or whatever, because if you take away those blunders made in time scramble it isnt that many. and any player however good will blunder sooner or later in time trouble. except for that, Im sure any player rated 2600 would have gotten severely trashed in this tournament by these guys, so its not like they are playing on a level far below.

that said, some of them do make a lot of blunders. :-)

I couldn't help but noticing the strange difference in the fonts used on the plates with the player's names. It seems like Shirov, Anand, Topalov, Radjabov and Ivanchuk are in one font, Leko and Aronian in another and finally Carlsen in a third different font. Are they saving these plates from previous years while adding new players with new fonts or something?
