@Rini: By the time you wrote your comment, Theo Hommeles had already lost his last-round game against Bluvshtein. Of course he (2412) still had a fine tournament, beating IM Samsonkin (2612) and GM Ni Hua (2702). Same goes for local players Bluvshtein (2598) and Porper (2510), who won the tournament ahead of Shirov, Adams, Ni Hua and other foreign GM's. Bluvshtein had a (relatively) 'easy' last-round game, but Porper beat Anand's second Ganguly.

Good news that tournament results aren't always 'predictable', possible implications for Biel?!

"Does Canada exist?" asked Jan Hein Donner in 1971 when his "arch-enemy" Hans Ree won the Canada Open together with Boris Spassky.
Tonight Theo Hommeles is playing Mark Bluvshtein in the last round of the Canada Open 2009. They are among the eight leaders with 6,5 / 8.
ChessVibes may be international now, but some chauvinism won't hurt.
Hup Theo!!!
I hope the link with Canada will be restored in time, at this moment no contact....

It is nice to see Morozevich playing again. He hadn't played for so long, I was beginning to think he had retired. But obviously he likes playing at Biel/Bienne.

Interesting list of previous winners. Too sad that Anthony Miles already passed away.
