Petrosian retains national title

Tigran L. Petrosian, the Armenian grandmaster who holds the same name as the 9th World Champion, retained his Armenian Championship title in Yerevan on Monday. Despite missing the leading players (Levon Aronian, Sergey Movsesian, Vladimir Akopian, Gabriel Sargissian) the tournament was still quite strong. Petrosian finished on 7/9, half a point more than Avetik Grigoryan and Robert Hovhannisyan. WIM Anna Hairapetian won the women's section, also with 7/9. The Championship took place January 11th-21st in Yerevan, Armenia.

Could someone explain why he has the same name as the ninth world champion. Presumably his parents were admirers? And for those who know the player, are there any similarities in his play?
