Play in Scotland!

Scottish Open 2009Ever wanted to go to Scotland, and play chess there? The Scottish Championship (July 11th-19th) is your chance. It will be the strongest ever held in the country, with 10 GMs already on the participants list. Besides, the open tournament will be held in a fantastic venue: the Edinburgh City Chambers.

The Scottish Championship is almost certainly the oldest continuously running chess event in the world. The first Championship was held in 1884 and this year's event will be the 116th. It includes an International Open which promises to be the most exciting ever.

Not only are all of Scotland's top players competing but already entries have been received from Grandmasters as far away as India. GMs Rowson, Markos, Prasad, Aagaard, Hebden, Motwani Arakhamia-Grant, McNab, Shaw and Panchanathan have confirmed thus far.

For amateur chess players and interested parties alike there will be the opportunity to see chess being played at the highest level and for the serious/aspiring player there will be the chance to take the first steps to becoming one of the world's elite players as title norms will be available.

The event will be made even more spectacular due to the magnificent venue - Edinburgh's City Chambers. This prestigious building will rival any previous venue in the world. It is almost worth entering just to see this building alone.

More information can be found on the tournament website. Entries here. Why not?
