Radjabov criticizes ECC format, to marry on October 7th

In an interview for 1news.az, Teimour Radjabov suggests a new format for next year's European Club Cup:

If the European Chess Union wants to make the tournament more interesting, it is necessary that the top ten teams play each other in a round robin tournament. It will be more objective, since the current format does not have enough rounds and the strength of opponents is not the same. Seven rounds may not reflect the real balance of forces in a particular tournament.

In the interview it is also mentioned that Radjabov, who climbed to the 5th spot in the live ratings this week, will marry on October 7th - this was previously reported by Apasport.az.

Rather odd title to the article. Sounds like getting married is tied to criticizing FIDE. Punishment or atonement? I suspect the former. If so, don't be sad...be a playa!!

What does FIDE has to do with it? The tournament is organised by ECU.

The ECU was started as a group within FIDE. Though now independent, "old-timers" still think of it as FIDE (it frequently cooperates with FIDE and its events are FIDE rated).

I still can't understand what happened to the "how cool is this kid" Rajdabov who beat both Kasparov and Anand in successive years as 14 and 15-year old at the prestigious Linares tournament.
I expected him to be at least at the strength of Aronian or Magnus Carlsen at this time. But he is even below Karjakin (I am saying this with due respect to Karjakin as the next strongest young player to these two prodigies).
Guess it is very difficult to top at the very top.
Wish him and the lucky girl the very best in marriage for life.

That "kid" is #5 in the world. The FIFTH highest rated person in the world. That is what happened to him. Wake up!

Radjabov is completely right: with 7 rounds, 4 boards and 38 teams, it will be a bit of a lottery which team wins. It would be nice I think if there would be groups of 8 or 10 with a promotion/degradation system for the following year, just like in the national leagues.
