Fabiano Caruana won a blitz event on Friday in Zurich of which the results were used for the drawing of lots for the Zurich Chess Challenge which begins today. The pairings for the first round are Caruana-Anand and Kramnik-Gelfand.

Bulgarian grandmaster Julian Radulski passed away on February 16th after a long illness. This was reported by Chessdom. Radulski won the Bulgarian Championship in 2011. His last rated tournament was the Bulgarian Championship in 2012, where he finishes 6th.

Radoslaw Wojtaszek won the 2nd Vladimir Petrov Memorial, another strong rapid event which took place this weekend in Jurmala, Latvia.
