Rook endings masterclass: Navara explains his win against Wojtaszek

Rook endings masterclass: Navara explains his win against WojtaszekAfter the first round of the 2011 Tata Steel Chess Tournament, David Navara entered the press room and gave a spontaneous 'press conference' about his game against Radowslaw Wojtaszek. The Czech GM was happy about his game, and rightly so - it won him the daily public prize in the B group. Take your time and enjoy this 40-minute masterclass of rook endings.

Very nice Peter, but plz also show us Giri demonstrating 22 Qxb6 e2 23 Re1 Qxc1! 23 Rxc1 e1D+ 24 Rxe1 Rxe1+ 25 Bf1 Bh3 versus Carlsen... Ouch!

No worries, I just filmed exactly that ten minutes ago. :-)

I hope you also filmed Giri - Smeets.

I was impressed by his lucid explanations. I am a poor chess player (1300) but in my opinion, he will make a very good second to Anand or his challenger, don't you think?!

A fine demonstration by GM Navara, interesting & instructive (btw, I didn't see any reason for him to apologize for his English, which seems very good).

He's one of my favourite players!

Navara is a really great player, his games are full of interesting and instructive ideas!

It is fascinating to distinguish what a player of Navara's strength sees though calculation, through knowledge of endgame theory, and through intuition.

Since Wojtaszek isn't yet well known notwithstanding his fast rise in the ratings, I hope that he too has an opportunity to give such a presentation during the tournament .

I really am affected by the humble nature and the way that he is giving himself the credit for the great work. The end of the last video when he explains why he wanted to show the game just melts my heart.

Great video with a perfect description of the ideas, as a fan of David I would be very glad to see similar kind of presentation again after the next victory.

Beautiful video ... I had to watch it until the end. A video of that length is very instructive. And many thanks to Navara for giving these unusual insights into the thinking of a great player
