Sjugirov wins Casino Barcelona tournament

Sanan Sjugirov won the Casino Barcelona tournament on Wednesday. The 19-year-old Russian grandmaster finished on 7/9 which was a full point more than Yuniesky Quesada Perez of Cuba.

We left the Barcelona tournament after six rounds, when Sjugirov was leading thanks to two draws and four wins. The Russian GM stayed undefeated in the remainder, with another win and two draws. In round 7 he was far too strong for 39 year old GM Josep Oms Pallisse of Spain. There game included some nice little tactics.

A point behind Sjugirov ended Yuniesky Quesada Perez. Like the winner, the 28 year old GM, currently the number four in Cuba, stayed undefeated. He easily defeated IM Joan Fluvia Poyatos from a Berlin Ending.

The 17th Magistral Ciutat de Barcelona took place October 23-31 in the Gran Casino of Barcelona. Besides a trophy, Sjugirov won 1500 Euros while Quesada's second prize was 1200 Euros.
