Well, putting Pillsbury over Morphy was certainly too much but as far as I know, he was probably the best of the world, for a short time before illness, and that at the time of the legends Steinitz and Lasker. Pretty much as Fischer.

Pillsbury wasn't considered the best of his era. I'm just talking about the best of the best. Something most countries have never had but the USA has, even though, ironically chess isn't very big in the states. It's a huge country though with a large population so there's no surprise that the States have had an official world champion and another considered the best of his era.

I love Pillsbury too though. The good ones die young, don't they?

It seems so weird to play 'real' over the board chess and do that by computer! :O
And you have to make your opponents moves!?!!?

i wouldn't like this way of OTB chess at all! The presence/psychology of the opponnent is the best part of the game!
This feels like a dead form of chess.

Take a break guys! USA is not all that cerebral a country. But then the rest of you guys are sissies. We have to bail you out each time. Our main sport is bang-bang something you guys are horrible at. Its extra extra large condoms versus your ultra-mini size. Just keep playing chess but keep your left hand below the table wimps. We dont need to play with ourselves. If you want help with your s-life just call.

Bobby Fischer
Paul Morphy
USA a chess nation? no
But when the stars align themselves just right some mad man obsessed with 64 squares born and bred in the US will do it better than any man has ever done it before.

That's just the facts boys. I simply speak the facts. No need to get upset.

Don't worry, USA. You just don't have the same 'chess culture' as other nations like Russia or China. But you have baseball and such, so... Everyone has his speciality. It is great you guys play chess! No matter how many GMs or IMs or just patzers like 1500. It doesn't matter! Chess is great at any level!
Keep playing it! :)

Johan - Thank you; well and graciously said. But "never" is a strong word. Perhaps some day the US will be loaded with world-class, native-born GMs (like our friends in Germany, Switzerland and Austria).
