Tseshkovsky dies at 67

Sad news on Christmas Eve: two times Soviet Champion Vitaly Tseshkovsky passed away on December 24th in Krasnodar, Russia. The well-known Russian grandmaster died in harness: participating in the Krai Cup, Tseshkovsky became ill during the first round, lost consciousness and died. This was reported today by the Russian Chess Federation.

Besides Smyslov Tseshkovsky also beat Spassky, Geller and Kuzmin in the 1974 Spartakiad. Soltis characterized his play as very agressive, in style reminiscent of Geller's. He was a very talented player but unfortunately he did not get the chance to play much in the West. He remained very strong for his age and was European senior champion twice.

funny, i'm following chess for four years now, but haven't actually came across his name once.....first i thought you were talking about Pjotr Tsjaikovski , the componist , but then i saw it was someone else!
