In the Thessaloniki Grand Prix's 6th round Fabiano Caruana and Gata Kamsky joined Leinier Dominguez in the lead. Kamsky won against Peter Svidler with 1.c4, while Caruana defeated Etienne Bacrot in a Scotch game. Vassily Ivanchuk lost in just 19 moves to Ruslan Ponomariov.

Who would have thought that Leinier Dominguez of Cuba would be leading the Grand Prix in Thessaloniki after five rounds? Especially since the Cuban lost his first game and drew the next, this was an unlikely scenario but three consecutive wins (today a fine rook ending against Rustam Kasimdzhanov) catapulted him to the top of the standings....

Nigel Short and Ivan Sokolov are tied for first place after five rounds at the Sigeman & Co tournament in Malmö, Sweden.
