Interview Vladimir Kramnik

[lang_nl]Iedereen heeft wel een favoriet schaakboek, en bij veel sterke spelers zal dit Bronsteins boek over Z?ɬºrich ‘53 zijn, de beste partijen van Tal of bijvoorbeeld Fire on Board van Shirov. Vandaag een klein variatie op dit thema, want ik vermoed dat veel spelers ook een favoriet openingsboek hebben. Een openingsboek dat grote invloed heeft gehad op hun spel. Voor mij is dat Beating the Sicilian 2 van John Nunn geweest. Nunn, die vandaag 52 jaar wordt, schrijft geen openingsboeken meer, zoals hij me vertelde in augustus vorig jaar. Helaas, want zijn boeken zijn top.[/lang_nl][lang_en]Everyone has a favourite chess book, and if you ask strong players they will probably mention Bronstein’s book on Z?ɬºrich ‘53, the games collection of Tal or perhaps Fire on Board by Shirov. Today a small variation on this theme, because I suspect that many players also have a favourite opening book. An opening book that had a great influence on their play. To me that’s Beating the Sicilian 2 by John Nunn. Nunn, who turns 52 today, doesn’t write opening books anymore, as he told me in August last year. [lang_nl]Vanwege de hapering in Dresden even wat kalendertrivia. Chess Today wijst de schaakfans erop dat vandaag precies vijftien jaar geleden Samuel Reshevsky stierf. Vrolijker is het dat de legendarische Hongaarse schaker Lajos Portisch vandaag de mooie leeftijd van zeventig jaar bereikt. In de jaren zestig en zeventig behoorde hij tot de absolute wereldtop. Hij was een vaste gast in de interzonale toernooien en plaatste zich maar liefst vijf keer voor de cyclus om het wereldkampioenschap. Voor Hongarije speelde hij mee in twintig (!) Olympiades en won met zijn land in Buenos Aires 1978, waar Portisch 10 uit 14 scoorde.[/lang_nl][lang_en]Because of the Dresden hitch, now for some calendar trivia. Chess Today pinpoints that today exactly fifteen years ago Samuel Reshevsky passed away. More happy news On a happier note legendary Hungarian chess player Lajos Portisch celebrates is 70th birthday today. In the sixties and seventies he belonged to the world elite, playing many interzonals and qualifying for the world championship title no less than five times. For his country Hungary he played in twenty (!) Olympiads; they won the 1978 Buenos Aires edition where Portisch scored 10 out of 14.[/lang_en] Read more
