Anand helps Baden-Baden to clinch 4th title in a row

Saturday OSC Baden-Baden clinched their 4th German title in a row by beating Aljechin Solingen 6-2. With a 4-point margin the club was sure of retaining its title and another 6-2 victory on Sunday against SV Wattenscheid was only for the statistics, but a nice celebration. World Champion Viswanathan Anand played his only two games of the season for Baden-Baden this last weekend, and won them both. Read more

Next weekend probably the strongest team competition in the world starts its new season: the Schachbundesliga. Of the sixteen top teams, OSC Baden-Baden is the big favourite with sixteen grandmasters in their squad, headed by Viswanathan Anand and Magnus Carlsen. In de sterke Duitse clubcompetitie staat een absolute topper op het programma: lijstaanvoerder SV Werder Bremen ontvangt in het Weserstadion (van voetbalclub Werder Bremen) landskampioen OSC Baden Baden. De Bundesliga heeft ChessVibes uitgenodigd om erbij te zijn en dat slaan we natuurlijk niet af. Vanmiddag stap ik al in de trein en met een beetje mazzel kan ik voor liveverslaggeving gaan zorgen vanuit Bremen dit weekend.[/lang_nl][lang_en]This weekend will be already the third Bundesliga weekend of this season. Je ziet vooral Slavisch, Dame-Indisch en dankzij Radjabov tegenwoordig ook weer veel Konings-Indisch. Hoewel Alexander Grischuk de Tarrasch soms als gelegenheidswapen gebruikt, lijkt er sinds Kasparov in de jaren tachtig geen topspeler meer te zijn geweest die de opening serieus met zwart bestudeerd heeft. De reden hiervoor is misschien dat veel zwartspelers de Tarrasch onbewust associeren met saaie stellingen en maximaal remise als resultaat. You mainly see Slavs, Queen’s Indians and thanks to Radjabov many King’s Indians as well these days. Although Grischuk uses the Tarrasch occasionally, no top player seems to have seriously studied the opening since Kasparov in the eighties. Toen het viertal cracks van HSG vorige maand bij het nietige De Eenhoorn op bezoek kwam voor de KNSB-bekerwedstrijd, hoorde ik De Vreugt, Nijboer, Stellwagen en Vedder praten over hun interne competitie. Ik dacht: huh? Interne? Spelen jullie mee in een interne?

Natuurlijk heeft HSG ook een interne, om de binding met de club te versterken. Zoals elke club in Nederland dat doet. Niets om je over te verbazen. Behalve als daar spelers als l’Ami, Douven, Janssen, Nijboer, Pieterse, Smeets, Stellwagen, Vedder, De Vreugt en Wiersma aan meedoen! Read more
