Two endgame manualsAs a fairly decent club player, I have always been impressed with club members, whether higher or lower rated than me, who were able to quickly evaluate basic endgames as ‘elementary’ draws or wins. I must admit I have always had difficulties remembering and truly understanding even the most basic endgames. CarlsenMagnus Carlsen beat Russia’s new number one player Dmitry Jakovenko today in a Berlin Ruy Lopez to take an early lead at the Sparkassen Chess Meeting in Dortmund. Both Leko-Kramnik and Naiditsch-Bacrot ended in a draw. Read more

King's TournamentAll games in round 8 of the Kings Tournament in Bazna ended in a draw and so Vassily Ivanchuk kept his one-point lead with two rounds to go. After the round Kamsky discovered that he had missed a beautiful win in his endgame against Nisipeanu. Read more
