Alexei Shirov won the 5th edition of the M-Tel Masters in Sofia by beating Carlsen in the last round. Wang Yue and Topalov drew their game while Ivanchuk finally managed to win a game, against Dominguez. Read more

At the M-Tel Masters in Sofia, Carlsen will go into the final round leading with half a point, after beating Wang Yue today while Shirov drew his game against Dominguez. Topalov defeated Ivanchuk and now shares second place with Shirov. Read more

In round 8 of the M-Tel Masters in Sofia all games ended in a draw. FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov executed the first move in Dominguez-Topalov, which turned out to be the most interesting game of the day. With two more rounds to go, Carlsen and Shirov lead with 5 out of 8, followed by Topalov who has half a point less. Read more

In the fourth round of the M-Tel Masters in Sofia, Veselin Topalov defeated Wang Yue convincingly with the white pieces. Carlsen and Shirov drew a hyper sharp Botvinnik Slav and now share the lead with 2.5/4. In a very complicated fight, Ivanchuk missed several wins against Dominguez and eventually had to be satisfied with a draw. Read more

The third round in Sofia saw a draw as the result in all three games. Of the six players Topalov must have been most disappointed, as he was very close to a win with White against Dominguez. Read more

It might be too early to say that Vassily Ivanchuk won’t retain his M-Tel title this year, but thus far he lacks the form to be called a favourite. Today he lost again, missing a, it must be said, beautiful pawn sacrifice by Wang Yue in a pawn ending. Shirov-Topalov and Dominguez-Carlsen ended in a draw and especially the latter shouldn’t be missed. Read more

In a spectacular first round of the M-Tel Masters, top seed Veselin Topalov lost with Black against Magnus Carlsen. 2008 winner Vassily Ivanchuk made a big mistake in the opening and went down very quickly against Shirov while Wang Yue missed a win against Dominguez; the two drew the longest game of the round.
