Toen partijen nog werden afgebroken, pakte hij nog regelmatig ?¢‚ǨÀúde boeken erbij', maar tegenwoordig kwam het nog maar zelden voor dat hij eens ?¢‚ǨÀúlekker in het eindspel dook'. [lang_nl]Het zit niet mee met Veselin Topalov. Eind januari was hij nog glorieus co-winnaar in Wijk aan Zee, maar in Linares lijkt alles tegen te zitten. Vandaag wist hij tegen Morozevich, de enige van wie hij tot dusver had weten te winnen, met goed spel een zeer goed paardeindspel te bereiken. Maar na een rekenfout kwam hij in een slecht staand dame-eindspel terecht (dat volgens de tablebases overigens remise was). Morozevich speelde het eindspel erg nauwkeurig en toen Topalov nog een keer in de fout ging, kon Moro het punt binnenhalen. (Maar ok?ɬ©, welk mens zou 70… Dh1+ 71. Kg7 Dg2! 72. Dxe5 Df3= vinden?) De overige drie partijen eindigden in remise.[/lang_nl][lang_en]Caissa is not on Veselin Topalov’s side these days. Today against Morozevich, the only player so far he managed to beat, he played well and reached a very promising knight ending. But after some miscalculation he suddenly saw himself defending a worse queen ending (that was still drawn aaccording to the tablebases, by the way). Morozevich was very accurate in this ending and after one more mistake by Topalov, Moro collected the full point. (But OK, which human would find 70… Qh1+ 71. Kg7 Qg2! 72. Qxe5 Qf3=.) Het startgeld voor de wereldkampioen is vijfhonderdduizend dollar; hetzelfde bedrag krijgt hij erbovenop van sponsor RAG (een chemieconcern) als hij wint. Als Kramnik wint.
