IM Twan Burg (Netherlands) and GM Alon Greenfeld (Israel) tied for first place in the 5th Batavia chess tournament in Amsterdam. Despite missing a GM norm by half a point, Burg played an excellent tournament. Top seeded GM Dimitri Reinderman, who was leading after seven rounds, lost his games in the last two rounds.

Vassily Ivanchuk won the ACP Golden Classic convincingly, finishing on +4 in the 7-round tournament. Anish Giri was in a class of his own at the Dutch Championship, scoring 6/7. The Women's Championship wasn't won, for a change, by Zhaoqin Peng but by Tea Lanchava. The SPA Open ended in a 2-way tie between IM Robert Hungaski and GM Alon Greenfeld...

After a bit of a "slow start", no less than four games have suddenly been adjourned at the Golden Classic in Amsterdam. At the Dutch Championship, Anish Giri is in firm lead with 4.5/5 while at the SPA Open there's a three way tie between GM Tejas Bakre, IM Manuel Bosboom and FM Floris van Assendelft.

In Amsterdam thee tournaments have begun: the ACP Golden Classic, the Dutch Championships and the SPA Open. So far the online spectators and Dutch chess fans present haven't been disappointed as in lots of nice games have been played in the Dutch capital already.

After five days of fast chess in Astana, we return to classical chess at the highest level today with the start of the 40th jubilee edition of the Sparkassen Chess Meeting in Dortmund, Germany. Tomorrow no less than three tournaments take off in the Dutch capital: the Science Park Amsterdam open, the Dutch Championship and the ACP Golden Classic...

Achim Illner surprised everyone by winning the 4th Batavia tournament with a round to spare. In the 8th round the German FM beat English grandmaster Mark Hebden to reach 6.5/8, one and a half points more than the rest of the field. This was also enough to turn his already secured IM norm into a GM norm.

They have survived a number of tricky positions, but GMs Sipke Ernst and Mark Hebden are sharing the lead after four rounds at the Batavia Tournament in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In a successful first edition of the Euwe Tournament, Zhaoqin Peng became the winner of group 1, and Robin van Kampen of group 2.

The first round of the Euwe Tournament saw three draws today in the games Fridrik Olafsson - Paul van der Sterren, Peng Zhaoqin - Pia Cramling and Monika Socko - Robin van Kampen. The game between Ketevan Arakhamia-Grant and Stuart Conquest had to be postponed as Conquest's airplane didn't take off from London City Airport due to fog.

On 26 November, it will be thirty years since former Dutch World Champion Dr. Max Euwe passed away. To honour his memory, the first Max Euwe Tournament will be held November 13-20 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
