Anton Korobov won the Ukrainian Championship in Kiev convincingly, finishing a point ahead of Alexander Areshchenko and Andrei Volokitin. Korobov's 8/11 was good for a 2831 TPR. Top seed Ruslan Ponomariov finished on 4th place with 6/11.

Andrei Volokitin is leading the Ukrainian Championship in Kiev after six rounds of play. The 26-year-old grandmaster from Lviv started the tournament with the excellent score of 5/6 and a 2929 performance. Andrei Volokitin beat Viktor Laznicka in the final of the Donostia-San Sebastian Chess Festival on Thursday. The Ukrainian grandmaster, who won both his games against his opponent from the Czech Republic, received a cheque of €20,000 and an electric bike.

Viktor Laznicka (Czech Republic) and Andrei Volokitin (Ukraine) qualified for the final of the San Sebastian-Donostia Chess Festival's A group. Laznicka defeated Alexander Moiseenko (Ukraine) while Volokitin was too strong for Leinier Dominguez Perez (Cuba).
