In the last four rounds the standings at the Geneva Women's Grand Prix have changed considerably. After round 8, Kateryna Lagno (Ukraine), who was at the top after four days, has dropped to third place behind GM Anna Muzychuk (Slovenia) and IM Bela Khotenashvili (Georgia). Sunday is a rest day and after that the last three rounds will be played....

Khanty-Mansiysk - The Women's World Championship is taking place from 11th November to 3rd December. The strongest 64 female chess players are playing in a World Cup (knock-out) format to determine who will unseat Hou Yifan as World Champion. The winner will face Hou in a World Championship match next year.

Humpy Koneru won the sixth and last FIDE Women's Grand Prix on Friday in Ankara, Turkey. The Indian grandmaster scored 8/11, half a point more than Anna Muzychuk. Humpy finished second in the overall Grand Prix series behind Hou Yifan. The Chinese had already clinched the first place at the previous GP in Jermuk.

As FIDE now publishes its rating lists on a monthly basis, the new lists have come out already. In the men's list World Champion Vishy Anand dropped to 6th place; the Indian is now behind Sergey Karjakin who won 6 points in Dortmund. In the women's list Anna Muzychuk has overtaken Hou Yifan in second place behind Judit Polgar.

After a bit of a "slow start", no less than four games have suddenly been adjourned at the Golden Classic in Amsterdam. At the Dutch Championship, Anish Giri is in firm lead with 4.5/5 while at the SPA Open there's a three way tie between GM Tejas Bakre, IM Manuel Bosboom and FM Floris van Assendelft.

Humpy Koneru and Anna Muzychuk finished shared first at the Women's Grand Prix in Kazan, Russia. Both the Indian and the Slovenian scored 7.5/11 and according to the regulations, prizes and GP ranking points are shared equally, in case of a tie, for the individual GP tournaments. Magnus Carlsen tops the May 1st FIDE rating list with the same rating as two months ago: 2835. Howevever, his lead has decreased to 10 points as Levon Aronian of Armenia won 5 points to get to 2825.
There were few changes in the world's top 10 in the past two months. At the moment of writing, Aronian's live rating is in fact 2826 so just 9 points...

Valentina Gunina won the European Women's Championship on Tuesday in Gaziantep, Turkey. The 23-year-old Russian IM edged out Tatiana Kosintseva and Anna Muzychuk on tie-break after the three had finished on 8.5/11.

Yesterday the first round of the Europen Women's Championship was played in Gaziantep, Turkey. The first prize is impressive: € 20,500 - for the first time in history higher than the first prize at the European Individual Championship, which will be held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria after this event.

For the first time in his career, Fabiano Caruana (Italy) entered the world's top 10. On the March 1 FIDE rating list, the 19-year-old Italian grandmaster occupies the 7th spot with a 2767 rating. Hikaru Nakamura (USA) re-entered the top 10 and is 6th, with 2771. Magnus Carlsen (Norway) still tops the list with a rating of 2835.
