After three rounds, there are still fifteen players with a 100% score at the Reykjavik Open, including top seeds Anish Giri and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. Wednesday was the day of the gruelling double rounds – Ivan Sokolov decided to play only one, but this wasn't a successful strategy. In round 3 Fridrik Olafsson was too friendly to his opponent.

On Tuesday, at 16:30 local time (17:30 CET), the 28th Reykjavik Open starts in the capital of Iceland. Last weekend, as a warm-up, a rapid match between China and Iceland was played. The guests won expectedly: the score was 47.5-24.5.

Big upsets were seen during the first round of the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival's Masters tournament as top seeds GMs Vassily Ivanchuk and Gata Kamsky were both held to a draw. Peter Svidler defeated David Navara with a score of 3-1 in the traditional Čez Chess Trophy match in Prague, Czech Republic. The Russian grandmaster decided the match on Saturday with a second win, and then the last game was drawn on Sunday.

The traditional Čez Chess Trophy is under way in Prague, and this year David Navara's opponent is Peter Svidler. The Russian grandmaster and World Cup 2011 winner took the lead with a win in the second game on Thursday. Two more games will be played; Friday is a rest day.

After four rounds at the Reykjavik Open, GMs Fabiano Caruana, David Navara, Ivan Sokolov, Ivan Cheparinov, Gawain Jones and Robert Hess are still on 100%. Outside it's cold, with very unpredictable and changeable weather, while inside the playing hall things are heating up, with GMs facing GMs already in round 4.
