Thanks to a 5-1 win against Tomsk-400 in the last round, Socar emerged as the winner on tie-break at the European Club Cup in Eilat. The top seed from Azerbaijan scored 8.3 SB points more than St Petersburg, who had the same number of match points. SHSM-64 went home with bronze.

In a dramatic penultimate round, St Petersburg lost its first match at the European Club Cup. They went down 2.5-3.5 to Socar as Alexander Grischuk beat Sergei Movsesian. The big clash in the 5th round of the European Club Cup was won by the Saint-Petersburg Chess Federation.
