Nigel Short won the Canadian Open in Ottawa on Saturday, edging out Eric Hansen on tiebreak. The two grandmasters scored 7.5/9 and finished half a point ahead of a group of five players that included Ivan Sokolov and Lazaro Bruzon. Lazaron Bruzon Batista won the 8th Edmonton International most convincingly. The Cuban grandmaster scored 8/9 (a 2771 performance) and finished two full points ahead of Nigel Short.
