FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov announced he held a two-hour meeting on Sunday in Tripoli with the Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi. Libya is currently in a state of civil war, with NATO and allies engaged in bombing raids, and Gaddafi himself accused of war crimes by the International Criminal Court. Three updates.

Today the World Chess Federation already published its May 1st Elo rating list. With the absence of rated super tournaments in March and April, it's no surprise that the top 10 has barely changed. U.S. Women's Champion Anna Zatonskih entered the female top 10 list for the first time.

At 2817 World Champion Viswanathan Anand is officially the highest rated player again. On the March 1st FIDE rating list the Indian switched places with Magnus Carlsen from Norway, who has 2815. Vassily Ivanchuk is back on 5th place, while Hikaru Nakamura climbed further from 10th to 8th.

The pairings for the upcoming FIDE Candidates matches are Topalov vs Kamsky, Kramnik vs Radjabov, Aronian vs Grischuk and Gelfand vs Mamedyarov. This was confirmed today by FIDE on its website. The matches will be held 3rd to 27th May, 2011 in Kazan, Russia.

At 2814 Magnus Carlsen is officially the highest rated player again. On the January 1st FIDE rating list the Norwegian switched places with World Champion Viswanathan Anand from India, who has 2810.
