In a press release posted on its website, the World Chess Federation (FIDE) has responded to criticsm and speculations concerning their decision to grant the World Championship match to Chennai. "FIDE has acted with full transparency during the whole process, trying its best to secure the match and standing by its obligations and reputation."

On the first day of the Presidential Board meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan the World Chess Federation officially granted the World Championship match between Viswanathan Anand and Magnus Carlsen to Chennai, India. This was tweeted by several FIDE officials on Sunday, and later confirmed by a press release by the All Indian Chess Federation.

Between June 5 and 11, 2013 the World Rapid & Blitz Championships will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. The prize money for each World Championship is 200,000 US Dollars. For the first time in the history of the events, they are open to all players nominated by their Federations or else with ratings over 2500. More at FIDE.

Next Friday the first round of the FIDE Candidates tournament will be played, and the winner has the right to challenge World Champion Vishy Anand. After decades of knockout matches, the way to reach that glorious world title match will now be decided in a round robin tournament. The last time this happened was more than half a century ago!
