In round 7 of the Grand Prix in Elista, Inarkiev escaped from a totally lost position and even beat one of the tournament leaders, Radjabov. Eljanov won against Cheparinov and Grischuk beat Alekseev, to share the lead with Gashimov.

After the restday, play resumed in Elista today. In a complicated middlegame Akopian lost an exchange to Alekseev who then showed no mercy. Peter Leko suffered his second loss in Elista today; this time it was Frenchman Etienne Bacrot who forced the Hungarian to resign with a beautiful queen sacrice. Wang Yue ground down Eljanov while Alekseev beat Kasimdzhanov with Black.

In an excellent last round, Levon Aronian became the glorious winner of the 2nd FIDE Grand Prix Tournament in Sochi, Russia.
