Zhao Xue won the 3rd Women's Grand Prix tournament in Nalchik, Russia with the super score of 9.5/11. The Chinese grandmaster had even started with 9.5/10 but lost in the last round. Nonetheless she finished 2.5 points ahead of the rest of the field.

Hou Yifan also won the second tournament in the FIDE Women's Grand Prix Series 2011-2012. It was practically impossible, but Humpy Koneru did it anyway. In the last two rounds the Indian caught Elina Danielian in the standings at the FIDE Grand Prix in Doha. In doing so, Koneru finished ahead of Nana Dzagnidze in the overall GP standings and qualified for a World Title match against Hou Yifan.
