Wang Hao is the new leader at the GM tournament of the Biel Chess Festival. On Thursday the Chinese grandmaster defeated Dutchman Anish Giri to reach 9 points out of 4 games. Hikaru Nakamura won his first game, against Victor Bologan, while Etienne Bacrot and Magnus Carlsen drew their game.

Helped by excellent preparation, Anish Giri grabbed the lead with a win against Etienne Bacrot on Wednesday. Hikarua Nakamura buit up an advantage in a Polugaevsky Najdorf against Wang Hao but then missed a tactic and even lost. Anish Giri and Wang Hao started with a win in the first round in Biel, Switzerland. The fresh Dutch Champion won against Alexander Morozevich, who took many risks trying to win. Wang Hao defeated Etienne Bacrot in a very nice King's Indian, Bayonet Attack. The game between Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura ended in a draw.

With one round to go, Fabiano Caruana is half a point ahead of the field at the Tal Memorial in Moscow. On Sunday the Italian beat Vladimir Kramnik. Luke McShane won again; the Englishman inflicted the third consecutive loss upon Alexander Morozevich. Alexander Grischuk won against Hikaru Nakamura.

Tomorrow the Tal Memorial, one of the strongest round roubin tournaments of the year, takes off in the Pashkov House in Moscow, Russia. On Thursday a special opening ceremony is planned, in which the drawing of lots will be based on the results of a blitz tournament. Hikaru Nakamura won the U.S. Championship on Saturday after beating Yasser Seirawan with white in the last round. The top rated American grandmaster finished a full point ahead of Gata Kamsky and with a point less, third came Alexander Onischuk. A report on the final two rounds.

Thanks to three consecutive wins in rounds 7, 8 and 9 Gata Kamsky is in sole lead at the U.S. Championships in Saint Louis, USA. The American grandmaster caught Hikaru Nakamura in round 7 and surpassed him in round 9, by beating Yasser Seirawan, while Nakamura had to concede a draw against Aleksandr Lenderman. Hikaru Nakamura is in sole lead at the U.S. Championships in Saint Louis, USA after six rounds. The highest rated American grandmaster, currently #7 in the world, won three games and drew three.
