With two rounds to go, nothing has been decided yet in Reggio Emilia as tournament leader Hikaru Nakamura lost to Alexander Morozevich on Wednesday. Anish Giri maintained his third place thanks to a win against Nikita Vitiugov. Vassily Ivanchuk lost his 4th consecutive game, to Fabiano Caruana.

Hikaru Nakamura increased his lead in Reggio Emilia to 4 points on Monday. In the 6th round the American grandmaster beat Nikita Vitiugov with White while his closest pursuers Alexander Morozevich and Vassily Ivanchuk both lost, to Fabiano Caruana and Anish Giri respectively.

In a direct encounter between the tournament leaders, Hikaru Nakamura beat Vassily Ivanchuk on Saturday in Reggio Emilia to reach 11 points out of 5 games. Alexander Morozevich is in second place after beating his compatriot Nikita Vitiugov while Anish Giri won his first game, against Fabiano Caruana.

After a bloody round with three decisive games, Vassily Ivanchuk and Hikaru Nakamura are sharing the lead in Reggio Emilia. Ivanchuk beat Alexander Morozevich in a brilliant game, Nakamura won against Anish Giri with Black in a King's Indian. Fabiano Caruana jumped to 4th place after beating Nikita Vitiugov, also with Black.

In the first round of the 54th Torneo di Capodanno Hikaru Nakamura won against Nikita Vitiugov with Black while Alexander Morozevich defeated Fabiano Caruana, also with the black pieces. Anish Giri held Vassily Ivanchuk to a draw in Reggio Emilia.
