Magnus Carlsen is the sole leader in Biel with one round to go. On Wednesday the Norwegian drew with Anish Giri, but co-leader Wang Hao lost against Victor Bologan. Hikaru Nakamura defeated Etienne Bacrot, who made a terrible blunder.

As FIDE now publishes its rating lists on a monthly basis, the new lists have come out already. In the men's list World Champion Vishy Anand dropped to 6th place; the Indian is now behind Sergey Karjakin who won 6 points in Dortmund. In the women's list Anna Muzychuk has overtaken Hou Yifan in second place behind Judit Polgar.

The Chinese grandmaster defeated Victor Bologan to score 3 more points, while runner-up Anish Giri only collected 1 point after drawing with Magnus Carlsen. Wang Hao is the new leader at the GM tournament of the Biel Chess Festival. On Thursday the Chinese grandmaster defeated Dutchman Anish Giri to reach 9 points out of 4 games. Hikaru Nakamura won his first game, against Victor Bologan, while Etienne Bacrot and Magnus Carlsen drew their game.

Anish Giri and Wang Hao started with a win in the first round in Biel, Switzerland. The fresh Dutch Champion won against Alexander Morozevich, who took many risks trying to win. Wang Hao defeated Etienne Bacrot in a very nice King's Indian, Bayonet Attack. The game between Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura ended in a draw.

Today the Biel Chess Festival starts with an exhibition blitz tournament, to celebrate the 45 years of the festival. It's a knockout with Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamaura, Alexander Morozevich, Wang Hao, Etienne Bacrot, Pentala Harikrishna, Yannick Pelletier and Alexandra Kosteniuk.
